Tinubu Appoints Babatunde Ogunjimi as Accountant General of the Federation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation (AGoF). His appointment takes effect from March 7, 2025, coinciding with the retirement of the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin.

A statement from presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the appointment, emphasizing that Ogunjimi was selected through a rigorous and merit-based process.

“Ogunjimi, 57, was first named as Madehin’s successor in December 2024. He emerged as the top candidate following a competitive selection process that involved a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews,” the statement read.

The selection committee, comprising top government officials, vetted several Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service, ensuring a transparent and excellence-driven process.

Ogunjimi is an accomplished accountant with extensive experience in financial management. He holds a B.Sc. in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1990) and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and urged him to uphold the principles of integrity, professionalism, and dedication in his service to the nation.
