As part of its commitment to strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Federal Ministry of Education has launched a nationwide Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program aimed at equipping Nigerians with industry-relevant skills. This initiative is part of the ministry’s efforts to strengthen TVET in Nigeria.
To participate in the program, Skill Training Centres, Vocational Enterprise Institutions and Mastercraft Persons are required to register for accreditation with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Accreditation will enable these institutions and individuals to receive government funding to train candidates under the TVET program.
To ensure quality and standardization, the Ministry has set specific requirements for registration and accreditation, as VEIs must be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and adopt National Skills Qualification-Based Curricula. They must also have at least one qualified instructor per trade and maintain a 1:40 instructor-to-student ratio.
The TVET program is expected to play a crucial role in addressing Nigeria’s skills gap and promoting economic development. By providing Nigerians with relevant skills, the program aims to increase employability and drive economic growth. With the launch of this program, the Federal Ministry of Education is taking a significant step towards transforming Nigeria’s education sector and preparing its citizens for the challenges of the 21st-century workforce.
