President Donald Trump has announced the creation of a task force to oversee preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by North America.
The task force, led by President Trump himself, will focus on coordinating U.S. government security measures and planning for the tournament, which is expected to attract millions of international visitors to the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
During a meeting with officials from FIFA, the international governing body of football, President Trump expressed his pride in the U.S. hosting the World Cup and stated that he looks forward to attending several matches.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino also spoke on the task force’s importance, emphasizing that it will work to ensure all visitors feel safe, welcome, and part of a special experience.
For the first time, the 2026 World Cup will feature 48 teams playing 104 matches across three countries. Of those, 78 matches will take place in the U.S., with 13 in Mexico and 13 in Canada.
