Rivers, Nigeria – In a robust crackdown on oil theft in the Niger Delta, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division arrested 16 suspects and recovered 24,000 litres of stolen oil products. The operation, which spanned from February 24 to March 2, 2025, also resulted in the destruction of 14 illicit refining sites across the region.
During a press briefing in Port Harcourt, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah, the division’s spokesperson, confirmed the recovery and detailed the coordinated efforts that targeted oil thieves operating in Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, and Akwa Ibom states. “Our operation has not only disrupted illegal refining activities but also safeguarded vital resources for the nation,” he stated.
Major General Eric Emekah, the General Officer Commanding the 6 Division, affirmed that his troops remain fully prepared to continue their mission to eradicate the illegal oil trade in the Niger Delta. “We are battle-ready and committed to ensuring that those who engage in oil theft face the full force of the law,” he added.
This decisive action marks a significant step in the ongoing campaign against oil-related crimes, reinforcing the government’s commitment to securing the region’s resources and enhancing national security.
