Newcastle United have secured their first domestic trophy in 70 years, triumphing 2-1 over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.
Liverpool, who have accumulated 38 major trophies since Newcastle last claimed silverware, entered the match as clear favourites.
However, Newcastle dominated the first half and were rewarded when Dan Burn headed home from a corner just before the break, sending the team’s supporters into celebration. Alexander Isak doubled their lead with a second goal early in the second half.
Liverpool gave themselves hope in stoppage time with a goal from Federico Chiesa, following a tense VAR check, but Newcastle held firm to secure the victory and end their long wait for a domestic trophy.
