The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State has downplayed the impact of former governor Nasir El-Rufai’s defection, insisting that his departure will not affect the party’s strength or political fortunes.
Amid speculations about El-Rufai’s exit, the party maintains that it remains united and committed to delivering good governance. A senior APC official in Kaduna, speaking on the matter, stated that while El-Rufai played a key role in the party’s past successes, the APC remains bigger than any individual.
“El-Rufai is a significant political figure, but our party’s structure and support base extend beyond one person. The APC remains strong in Kaduna, and our focus is on governance and the 2027 elections,” the official remarked.
Meanwhile, political analysts suggest that El-Rufai’s defection could have varying effects, particularly among his loyalists, some of whom may reconsider their stance within the APC. However, party insiders believe that the former governor’s influence has waned since leaving office.
As the political landscape shifts, the APC insists that it is prepared for both support and criticism. The party urges opposition figures to engage in responsible criticism based on facts rather than speculation or personal attacks.
With Kaduna remaining a key battleground in Nigeria’s politics, the coming months will reveal the true extent of El-Rufai’s departure on the party’s standing in the state.
