Governor Sule Highlights Economic, Cultural, and Investment Benefits of Nasarawa State Fishing Festival

The annual Nasarawa State Fishing Festival has once again taken center stage, showcasing its significance in driving economic growth, preserving cultural heritage, and attracting investment to the state. Governor Abdullahi Sule, speaking at the 2025 edition of the festival held at Feferuwa Lake in Assakio, Lafia East Development Area, commended the Feferuwa community for their unwavering dedication to sustaining this cherished event.

A Celebration of Culture and Economic Growth

Welcoming development partners and stakeholders in the fishing industry, Governor Sule highlighted the festival’s pivotal role in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises. He noted that the event creates economic opportunities, particularly benefiting youth and women by fostering sustainable livelihoods.

Beyond its economic impact, the Governor also underscored the importance of conservation efforts, given the presence of vulnerable fish species in the lake. He expressed optimism that, with proper development and exposure, the Feferuwa Fishing Festival could gain international recognition, much like the renowned Argungu Festival, ultimately boosting tourism and state revenue.

Stakeholders Advocate for Festival Continuity

The Permanent Secretary of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Agriculture, Umaru Abdullahi, spoke on the festival’s broader societal benefits, emphasizing its role in promoting agricultural and aquacultural development in the state. Similarly, the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, Justice Aisha Bashir, and the Chairman of Lafia Local Government Council, Hon. Mohammed Arabo, advocated for the festival’s continuity, stressing its significance in preserving cultural traditions and fostering unity among the people.

Looking Ahead

With continued government backing and active community participation, the Nasarawa State Fishing Festival is set to evolve into a major economic and cultural landmark in Nigeria. As stakeholders rally behind its development, the event holds the promise of transforming Nasarawa into a prime destination for cultural tourism and investment in the fishing industry.
