EFCC Recovers N365 Billion, Secures 4,111 Convictions in 2024 – Olukoyede

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that it recovered over N365.4 billion and secured 4,111 convictions in 2024.

EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, made this disclosure in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during a three-day retreat for the Commission’s directors themed: “EFCC: The Journey So Far, Ensuring Professionalism and Integrity.”

In a statement by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Olukoyede attributed the Commission’s success to the commitment, sacrifice, and dedication of its staff. He further assured that the EFCC aims to surpass this record in 2025.

“In 2024, the Commission secured 4,111 convictions and recovered over N365.4 billion. I appreciate the hard work and discipline of our team and urge them to remain dedicated. Our goal is to set even higher standards in 2025,” Olukoyede said.

He also emphasized the importance of professionalism and integrity in the Commission’s operations, vowing to build a more transparent and efficient EFCC. According to him, in the next six months, Nigerians will witness a rebranded and more effective agency.

Speaking at the retreat, Professor Tonnie Iredia addressed the role of information management in shaping public perception of the EFCC. He noted that negative narratives often stem from deliberate distortions and cynicism, despite the Commission’s strides in fighting corruption.

He lauded Olukoyede’s leadership, calling for greater public participation in the anti-corruption war.

Renowned legal expert, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, also reflected on the EFCC’s evolution and affirmed that the Commission has become a permanent force in Nigeria’s fight against corruption.

He commended the EFCC’s resilience in tackling corruption and assured that challenges within the judiciary would be addressed to ensure the Commission effectively fulfills its mandate.

With these renewed commitments, the EFCC aims to intensify its efforts in combating financial crimes and promoting transparency across Nigeria.
