Edo Crisis: Governor Okpebholo Seeks Justice, Promises Lasting Peace

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has vowed to bring the perpetrators of the February 21 killings in Ovia South West Local Government Area to justice. During a visit to the affected communities, he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and strengthening security in the region.

Government’s Immediate Action Plan

To prevent further attacks, Governor Okpebholo announced plans to establish a police outpost in the area. He reassured residents that no crime will go unpunished under his watch and urged them to remain calm, promising swift government intervention.

Speaking at the meeting, the Governor emphasized:

“My mission is to restore peace and drive development. Without peace, there can be no progress. These killings and conflicts must stop.”

Community Leaders Speak Out

During discussions with leaders of Madoti and Gbelebe communities, it was revealed that the crisis began when hoodlums attempted to steal farm produce from farmers in Madoti. The newly formed local vigilante group confronted the criminals, escalating tensions.

Community leaders expressed deep frustration over persistent farm theft, calling on the government to intensify security efforts and protect farmers from further attacks.

Governor Okpebholo also met with leaders from Gbelebe, a neighboring Ijaw community, where he sued for peace and unity, assuring them of government support.

The Bigger Picture

As tensions ease, Governor Okpebholo’s proactive approach signals a new era of governance in Edo State—one that prioritizes justice, security, and sustainable development. Residents are hopeful that these promises will translate into lasting peace and safety for all.
