Governor Sule Champions Engineering as Catalyst for Sustainable Development in Nasarawa

Governor Abdullahi Sule has reaffirmed the indispensable role of engineers in driving sustainable development in Nasarawa State. Speaking at a World Engineering Day event in Lafia, he underscored the state’s untapped potential and urged engineers to actively engage in innovative solutions that translate technical expertise into practical impact.

World Engineering Day, observed annually on March 4th, recognizes the contributions of engineers to sustainable development. This year’s theme, “Shaping a Sustainable Future Through Engineering,” highlighted the profession’s crucial role in economic growth, innovation, and environmental stewardship.

Governor Sule, himself an engineer, reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering engineering excellence as a cornerstone of state development. He emphasized that leveraging innovation and technical proficiency is key to addressing critical societal challenges such as infrastructure deficits, environmental sustainability, and technological advancement.

Engr. Margaret Oguntala, representing the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), along with the keynote speaker, outlined strategic areas where engineering solutions can drive impactful change. These include smart infrastructure development, renewable energy adoption, and climate resilience initiatives.

The event also featured exhibitions of groundbreaking engineering innovations, demonstrating the transformative power of engineering in shaping Nasarawa State’s future. With government support and active industry participation, engineering remains pivotal to achieving long-term sustainability and economic prosperity.
